What are we loosing....

This is large for a watercolour- 57x78 cms, and there is addition of bits of plastic and thread.

On the left is the coral reef with 2 nice big nudibranchs facing off ... if you want to see a nudibranch in action watch the first episode of David Attenboroughs Asia on BBC2 which is Undersea. My nudibranchs are x5 normal size... this is what I did with my insects and my sand lizard; make them larger than life so we can see them and go "wow" thats amazing, all that detail ; and in this case colour. Theres a small finding Nemo, a worried looking bigger fish head on, and above the giant clam, a seahorse. Oh such wonderful memories of snorkelling and scuba diving in Asia. Top left is a real hammerhead shark as seen in the Galapagos with my family a few years ago. After lockdown when the chinese factory fishing ships had been - the guides were so worried all those amazing fish would be gone or at least less.... but no they were there and we were excited. In my experience there is always more when theres a cold current running through... and this is in essence what global warming is doing- the seas are getting warmer and with it comes coral bleaching and eventually coral death. Coral death is when its brown and lumpy, and just doesnt look like coral anymore.

Second major issue is the plastics... there are huge gyres of plastics in all the oceans. And marine scientists are working at coralling it. Clearly the problem is production and there should be a tax on the plastic amkers and the commercial plastic users ( all those cups and bottles and in asia the styrofoam lunch boxes. The cruelest way to visually document this is to see fish and turtles trapped in ghost nets. And I am sure you have seen photos of the stomachs of beached whales, seals, dolphins, seabirds. Jeepers we and the authorities have to ACT !
