Sally Ferguson

Biography

Sally is a visual artist based in Farnham. She has a passion for life stories, making them visible; from her time as a feminist obstetrician to her reinvention as an ecologist. Sally wants to celebrate small creatures, make the ephemeral visible. How to bring attention to the coming disaster of biodiversity loss that humans are bringing about?  She uses many media, 2 and 3 D, paint, cloth, wire and ceramic. Her ethos follows her wildlife photographer husband Roberts motto- Look, Learn, Love, Protect.

Artist Statement

MOTHS  is a visual explosion of what can be found after an overnight moth trap- where a light is set up over a box with baffles- in her garden. In the morning the delight of discovery; which moths have come, their identification, and release as the morning light warms their wings. There are over 2500 species of moths in the British Isles and over the last 2 summers Sally has documented 53 in her garden, a meadow in the woods. Moth species include a Light Emerald, Poplar Hawkmoth, Buff Tip, Purple Thorn, Black Arches, Canary Shoulder and a Pale Prominent. The Six Spot Burnett and  Hummingbird Hawkmoth are found in the daytime nearby.
