LIMN at Watts Gallery

UCA MA fine art students have a group show at this lovely gallery complex in Compton, May to end June. Both Inside the main gallery and outside Limnerslease which was Mary and George Watts home. This couple married late, George was a famour Victorian portrait painter also taking on subjects with a social concience ( theres an Irish famine family as well as a "found drowned" youg woman suicide) as well as themes...eg life death and judgement. Mary who had gone to the Slade was 30 years his junior and apart from helping George in his later years set up a pottery to give work to the community. She sold at Liberties. Their cementary Chapel is a beautiful building- made for the village.

My work is 2 large double faced canvases of Mary and George in the garden. The front is about them and their lives ( for example Marys has a suffragette and feminist element) and the back their work. They are seen as you come up the garden path towards Limnerslease.
